Each year, between 5.7 and 8.4 million deaths in low- and middle-income countries are linked to poor quality of care, accounting for up to 15% of all deaths. More often, they stem from multiple system failures within complex healthcare environments. Delivering care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient-centered requires more than intention. It requires applying improvement science in daily practice. The ACQUIRE QI-PS Theory Leadership Course is designed to build this capability. It equips multidisciplinary teams with practical skills in patient safety, communication, teamwork, quality improvement, leadership, and patient-centered care through virtual learning.
To date, more than 1,700 healthcare professionals have completed the program across two years, gaining tools they can apply immediately within their institutions.
What makes this course stand out is how participants describe its impact. Their reflections reveal not just knowledge gained, but a shift in how they see problems, teams, and their own role in improving care.Β
Here is what they had to say:
The modules are very educative β there is a lot I have learned that will help with quality improvement going forward.
These courses have given me a brand new perspective on certain issues and I see how I could have handled some matters differently. The importance of playing as a team and learning there are no bad people β only bad systems.
The quality improvement course has significantly enhanced my interest and confidence in leadership, particularly in decision-making and implementing effective change. It has equipped me with the skills to identify and address gaps in healthcare delivery that require urgent attention. I now feel more empowered to initiate and support quality improvement initiatives within my healthcare setting, fostering a culture of safety and efficiency.
This course has influenced my approach to fostering organisational change by making me understand that everyone in the healthcare sector has a key leadership role within themselves to play.
It has helped me in witnessing and addressing inefficiencies, errors, and poor outcomes in the workplace.
Through this course, my knowledge on patient safety and QI has been broadened and now I will do better as well as champion change in my institution.
This course has made me realise how much we neglect patients' safety and focus so much on being care providers.
This course has made me realize how much we waste patients' time in the lab.
The course has empowered me to see quality improvement not just as a task, but as a mindset. I now understand that even small changes can lead to significant impact in patient care.
It has effectively emphasised the importance of addressing errors arising from both human and system-related factors. Technology should not dictate patient care β it should only serve to support it. Ultimately, clinical judgment and a patient-centred approach must always remain at the core of healthcare delivery.
The course has been an eye opener. It has made me appreciate how preventable errors occur without being noticed. I like the insight it gives with regards to factors that contribute to errors and ways they can be avoided or mitigated.
I am enjoying every bit of the course. So far done with 5 modules and they are very informative. I will definitely apply the knowledge gained as I progress.
The course has greatly influenced my approach from the traditional blame game to a win-win approach. I am currently learning how to deal with resistance to change.
What sparked my interest in QI was witnessing a number of errors in the healthcare system. This course has helped me gain more insight on the possible causes of such errors. Thank you for this opportunity.
I've learned how to identify root causes, engage stakeholders effectively, and implement sustainable improvements. Now I approach challenges not just as problems to solve, but as opportunities to co-create better systems with my team.
For teams that complete the course, the pathway continues. Eligible institutions can progress to the ACQUIRE QI-PS Experiential Leadership Program, where these insights are translated into real-world improvements. The next cohort will open soon.
