Healthcare without quality is
ineffective, wasteful, and hampers progress towards improved health outcomes.

Reflections from the ACQUIRE Leadership Team

"What if a learning healthcare system in Africa is not just a dream, but the future within our reach?"

Mary, Ruthpearl, and Lydia have a dream that all hospitals on our continent will become a learning healthcare system – creating a continuous, collaborative journey of improvement at every level of care. It’s not an impossible dream. Through the ACQUIRE theory and experiential leadership program, hundreds of healthcare workers use a systematic process to determine the root cause of problems and explore, test, and deploy solutions to make sustainable improvements in their institutions.

But it’s more than just evidence-based practice—it’s also about people who care. A true learning healthcare system stays flexible, ready to adapt and innovate as new challenges arise. By aligning technology, workforce development, and a commitment to patient-centered care, we can turn lessons learned into meaningful progress—improving quality, patient safety, and equity for all.

This is our vision, and it’s at the heart of everything we do at ACQUIRE. Together, we’re not just building a healthcare system; we’re building trust, resilience, and a future where quality care is a reality for everyone.

QI LEADERSHIP FORUM JULY 2024:

Building Quality Improvement into Africa's Health System Agenda

The July 2024 ACQUIRE Quality Improvement Leadership Forum was a significant milestone, bringing together over 700 participants—60 in-person and 638 online—from 9 African countries. This forum demonstrated a continent-wide dedication to advancing Patient Safety and Quality Improvement. The event served as a platform for healthcare professionals to exchange experiences and strategies for closing the gap between knowledge and practice in Quality Improvement. Experts engaged in reflective discussions on addressing Africa’s unique challenges, enhancing health outcomes, and embedding quality of care into health systems. Spanning two days, the forum featured six dynamic sessions and over 20 keynote speakers from Botswana, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Together, they championed the mission to integrate Quality Improvement into Africa’s health system priorities.

Congratulations Graduands: 2024 Theory Leadership Course

The theory phase of the program delivers 13 comprehensive courses over 17.5 hours, focusing on evidence-based practices that elevate patient safety and care standards. Designed for healthcare professionals across all cadres—including pharmacists, government health workers, medical consultants, and finance experts—it fostered a culture of accountability and innovation.
