It all began with an invitation. That invitation would spark a powerful shift across five health facilities and the county management team in Nyandarua County, Kenya. When five health facilities, together with two teams from management in Nyandarua County, saw an opportunity to learn about Quality Improvement with Kijabe College of Health Sciences and ACQUIRE, they did not hesitate. They showed up, curious, cautious, and ready to learn.
What they did not expect was to leave with tools that would completely rewire how they think about patient care.

It all started with an invitation. Curious, cautious, and committed, health workers from Nyandarua showed up ready to learn. What they left with would change how they deliver care forever.

The Healthcare workers in Nyandarua knew something was not working. Patients were falling through the cracks, especially those with chronic conditions. It was time for a different approach.

With support from Kijabe College and ACQUIRE, teams began learning the science of Quality Improvement. New tools. New mindset. New possibilities.

Turning ideas into action: Using the fishbone analysis, pareto charts and root cause analysis tools, teams broke down real challenges in diabetes care, like NHIF delays and missed nutrition follow-ups, into problems they could tackle.

QI teams were formed and began to work even in the first two days of classroom training.
As the online mentorship sessions guided every step, the biweekly mentorship sessions helped teams test ideas, question assumptions, and build confidence in leading change, right from where they stood.

The graduation day was a moment of pride! Each team presented their progress and wins. From better NHIF access to smarter outpatient flow.
Fast forward 1.5 years…The spark did not die. At JM Kariuki Hospital, QI thinking is now part of the culture. From smoother discharges to better payment systems, they are still applying what they learned. You could tell when the shift happened. QI is Transforming Patient Care in Nyandarua. Their story is a powerful journey of mindset shifts, teamwork, and measurable impact across five facilities and two county management team projects. And best of all, the QI movement in Nyandarua is still moving forward.
